Viscosity measurements of subliquidus magmas: Alkali olivine basalt from the Higashi-Matsuura district, Southwest Japan
We carried out viscosity measurements and sampling of a crystal suspension derived from alkali olivine basalt from the Matsuura district, SW Japan, at subliquidus temperatures from 1230 °C to 1140 °C under 1 atm with NNO oxygen buffered conditions. Viscosity increased from 31 to 1235 Pa s with a decrease in temperature from 1230 to 1140 °C. On cooling, olivine first appeared at 1210 °C, followe...

We appreciate the comments by Yamamoto et al. [1] regarding our recent article [2]. We understand the questions regarding our statistical methods with respect to the propensity matching, but in our opinion, the methods used were appropriate in addressing the question of whether video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy is oncologically equivalent to open lobectomy with respect to overall...

Establishing hormesis as an evolution-based biological phenomenon requires a broad discussion of its implications for currently used risk paradigms. The Jayjock et al. papers provide an industrial hygienist's perspective and, as such, represent a valuable contribution to this discussion. Our comments outline a toxicologist's view on the limits and practicability of the Jayjock et al. suggestion...

In what follows I supplement my published reply (Strevens 2001) to Ahn et al.’s commentary (Ahn et al. 2001) on my paper concerning psychological essentialism (Strevens 2000). The supplementary comments come in three parts. First, I ask whether my alternative to psychological essentialism, which I call the minimal hypothesis, or minimalism for short, can explain certain experimental results of ...

Comments on the case report reported by Elmholdt et al. Sir, We read with interest the recent report by Elmholdt et al. [1], documenting two cases of nephrogenic systemic fibro-sis (NSF) following exposure to a large dose of the macro-cyclic gadolinium (Gd) contrast-enhancing agent (GdCA), gadobutrol (Gadovist, Bayer-Schering, Germany). However , we have several reservations about this report i...
